the Obsession Chronicles

"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."

sometimes when i come to remake this page, which i usually do shortly after Brezsny tells me what's in store for the week, i start here with a rant, something that's been brewing over the days since the last rant * sometimes more of the same rant * sometimes i start with the lists, as i did today * i dreamed like crazy last night (at one point i was in the shower listening to Diane Lane sing a lovely song that went "hello goodbye Viggo"! then if that wasn't weird enough Sunshine came in & she was trying to show me how to scrub my dry, rough heels & i started to feel self-conscious but then i realized i was wearing my swimsuit -- in the shower!), so i started with the dreams, which led me to explore the www lives of the 3 hobbits who graced them (a different link for each mention)... i worked my way down, putting my weekend fun into my animal pals spot, & finally back up past the movies & the horrorscope to this rant spot with nothing left to say (yet look how many words i can use to say it!) & i can barely type because Pippin keeps shoving his nose under my left hand... it's time for a walk & maybe some new pics *

neighbors making the days brighter

it's the next day & i want to add to this page without completely changing it (i get so stuck in my little routines!) * we had a delightful walk on the Bald Hill path (from which most of the pictures on this page came) & when i walked back up to my door i found a row of Easter treats balanced on the screen * Jason & i have a game we play with a traffic cone (place it in the most obnoxiously creative place we can find) but this was pure sweetness (pun intended) * i had already planned on inviting them over for dinner because they are constantly feeding me but it seems i'll never catch up *

they made me happy by being happy with my simple meal of soup (cream of mushroom) & salad & we giggled over everything from the dogs to our other neighbors to my nutty dreams & constant obsessions * Jason asked me if i could have either Viggo for a year or all the hobbits (i only want two, but i'd take 3) for as long as i wanted what would i choose? no hesitation * those boys are adorable, amusing & even fairly aware but... not all boys grow up to be men -- they may, but Viggo is * i'd give anything just to meet the man, so to spend a year with him (in any capacity) i'd give up meeting anybody else, even a coupla hot & horny little hobbits * sigh, was i ranting again?
Jason couldn't believe my answer so he kept going, "a day with Viggo?"
"okay you just get to watch him take a shower"
"i don't want to watch him take a shower [okay so i wouldn't close my eyes] i want to talk to him!" * at least Abby understands this... he fascinates me & it goes beyond the body, well-cared for & well lived-in as that body may be *
"okay, you can talk to him, & you can do his back too"
"[sigh...] or the hobbits for as long as i want?"
"& you get to live in a hobbit house"
"okay, fine, hobbits it is" & i'll just have to stick around long enough for them to become Real Men as i know at least Dom will (no offense Billy, but Dom's younger & shows more signs of the depth of awareness & connection to the fullness of life that i crave in my truly manly men -- i'm sure you're helping him in that way but i bet he's helping you too) *

making lists: about this page

last updated 10 January 2004
the stunning movie The Pillow Book is the inspiration for this ever-evolving page of lists * there are lots of links mixed in on my lists -- if i could find a good link on any item, i included it * some links go straight to Amazon.com or the IMDb but watch that bottom status bar because there are some other great links hidden in there * if you're interested in a little history, follow the story behind this page on the one that came before it, otherwise, click on for more rambling words and lists of beloved things -- is that an oxymoron?
the lists below may look the same but they change every time i update the page * not all of them every time, but all of them over time * as it's a new year i'm going to give them another thorough going over, keep my mind moving on to new obsessions, even though i don't completely let go of the old ones *
the 2 spots at top i'll keep -- they're always changing & besides, they please me (i'm the only audience for these pages for all i know, so why not?) * my horrorscope: i'm a woo-woo type, part pagan, so why not revel in it? & the hotties in the movies: what's life without some tasty crushes? i try to keep the list short, but when i really fall for somebody it's usually because of a generous genuine nature & then i never want to take him&her off my list * like Viggo, like Salma * i saw the elvin Cate Blanchett on Inside the Actors Studio & wow... she said "It has to be a generous act" about really giving herself to a performance emotionally, going all out as she does * the generosity of creative expression is one of my favorite concepts, the one i've begun the last 2 years with (see Viggo for last year, & Brezsny for this) * see, it's all connected *

my horrorscope this week
(for the week of 1 April 2004):
Aries statesman Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in a mere 18 days. You should make him your role model as you devote the next three weeks to producing a masterpiece that will be regarded by posterity as one of history's great accomplishments. APRIL FOOL! I was exaggerating a little, Aries. It's true that you now have enormous creative power, and you could very well lay the groundwork for what will ultimately be a tour de force. But you may not be able to whip it out in three weeks, and it may not have quite the star quality of Jefferson's classic.

angel cards i just drew:
purpose    education    patience

how am i doing?
wow, that's some demanding advice! my creative energy is going into my garden & into these pages, where i will eventually discover my book * i did have a day this week, or rather a night when i couldn't sleep, full of feelings of wasting my life & being a little bit lost or not fully following my path or something... i can't say i got over it, but one can only wallow for so long * i'll get there, i have faith in that (but don't ask me just where i'm going!) *

my favorite dream so far this month:
i was walking with two of the hobbits, my favorite Billy & also Elijah (as in real life, i really only had eyes for Billy) * they were filming the movies & i had somehow happened on them returning from an errand * Billy liked me & he gave me a kiss, sending me staight to heaven so i was going to go back to where the fans belonged -- without even asking for an autograph from either famous hobbit, despite my giant crush (i mean, after a kiss, what does a girl need?) * i must have been amusing them because they decided i should stay * as a pass they gave me a trading card (i remember it had a fish on it, which is very un-LotR but like one of the Tales Before Tolkien) & both signed the back of it * Billy wrote "kiss, kiss" & Elijah wrote "let's kiss, kiss" * what a dream! i started to look at him funny (hey, i'd kiss Elijah -- in a second!) but they had gone off to do a scene * i saw Dom sitting nearby so i went over to see if i could get him to sign my card too * i was a little embarrassed, so i asked him, stupidly, "are you bored with all this?" to which he replied "no..." & i crumpled so he smiled that adorable lady-killing smile & went on, "but that doesn't mean the answer to your next question is no" & i sheepishly, gleefully, handed over the card for an autograph but i woke up before i saw what he wrote... i should've asked for a kiss instead, hey?

my other favorite dream:
there were frogs all over the trail, beautiful frogs * one especially big one in the middle of the trail was blue & green & yellow-spotted * i saw that one first but the more i looked the more i realized they were everywhere * under the plants, all over the dirt, all along the path * big ones, little ones, colorful ones, green ones * even in the dream i was thinking "i don't think i've ever dreamed about frogs before" but considering they're an indicator species i took them as a good sign (& blamed them on that night's late conversation with my best friend) *

animal friends:
Pippin took a trip with me this past weekend & got to meet some of my best friends & see some of my favorite places * first stop was Portland, where Ben's cats ganged up on him & scared him into a corner -- hilarious * next stop was Seattle to see his pal Shiner, whom he'd already met when Max came down to visit me * we went to the dog park & o man! what a scary place! great for the dogs though * once he got his bearings Pip didn't have a thought for me -- i guess that's good? i met up with Ethan at a bar down the street & we fell into old tales & plenty of laughter, as always * not to mention too much beer * Max joined us a bit later & i should have been cut off but she tells me i was very funny (sheesh) * the laughter continued as Ethan told a childhood story of being jealous of the dog, whom he called "the crotch dog," because beautiful women would come over & he'd get into his position & they'd pet him & say how sweet he was * even at 6, Ethan knew that's where he wanted to be -- hilarious * he played the man & walked us home so he met the Pip though i have to be honest & say that the walk around the block we took with the dogs is blurry to say the least * next day, after another trip to the dog park, it was back down to Oly & a walk at the gorgeous Burfoot Park to see the mountains (ah those mountains... how i miss them * "ooo mama" i said gratefully when i came out on the highway from Seattle & that big gorgeous Rainier popped into view * i can't tell you how much joy i get out of seeing that mother mountain -- i know she could kill me but if she did i'd die happy) while the pup chased the waves -- you guessed it: hilarious * i had dinner with Kyle & Rachel * afterwards Kady liked Pippin (they played like puppies) so it was a complete success *
