the Obsession Chronicles"may you live all the days of your life"
-- jonathan swift posted 16 January 2004 | ||
dream with the hobbitsi'll just come right out & say that i am delightfully obsessed with the Lord of the Rings in its many forms * the way Peter Jackson treated the movies reminds me of the great irreverent treatments of Shakespeare plays i've seen * all that crazy new kiwi technology (digital horses?!) certainly wasn't available to Tolkien but man he sure provided plenty of plans!
i looove the whole story, love the movies & the endlessly creative ways the hoards of people involved made them (i bet i could watch them one a week for quite a while because every time i see more of the set/cgi or more of a certain character -- i told you i was obsessed) * i loved New Zealand too * i feel lucky to have been there -- i'd love to go back to that gorgeous place with a camera * & of course the actors... o man, what an absolutely b-e-a-utiful cast & i mean more than skin deep, most of 'em (not that i'm disparaging the skin, mind you!) * what they accomplished as a group, wow! it sounds to me like they made it happen partly & partly it happened to them: the story wants to be told *
my new favorite song is Dom & Elijah singing some kinda happy jibberish called Half Fling ...hee, it's playing now, making me laugh * i'm a junkie like Gollum * not just for the mainstream pieces, but for the whole spectrum of experiences * that song's on a Viggo cd that he did with some of the hobbits, er boys * (i adore the idea of them sitting around together making music -- or drinking beers * i loved hearing Dom say that the movies changed his whole social scene, for the better, & the quote from Elijah: "the Fellowship will always exist") * i didn't buy the soundtrack though i'll admit i might 'cause my latest big crush is Billy Boyd & i'd buy it just to get that song that he sang (with his own music) as the hungry, maturing Pippin while mean ol' Denethor stuffs his ugly face * that may be my favorite scene, that one -- it rivals the hila-hila scene in Thin Red Line for perfection... you are what you see *
heh... link, link, i do love that website... i shouldn't admit that i sometimes refresh it over & over just to hear that snippet by Billy or Viggo or Karl Urban or Liv or Sir Ian, all of whom i have shivered with delight to hear while testing this post, & i'm not the biggest Orlando fan but he does have a sexy voice!) * nor should i admit that it's Billy/Pippin on my desktop & Viggo/Aragorn gracing my screen when i come back from grabbing another cup of coffee... yummy *
hee, usually for this free-wheeling page the title comes first, but i started this one last night on a blog i'm hoping to work on with my dad * i'd written the whole bit & then the title just popped up: hobbit dreams * today it's different so i've renamed it with a nod toward Dream with the Fishes * i did have a dream a while ago that i was out in a field where a lot of people were milling about when suddenly i was talking to the entire LoTR ensemble, all standing close to eachother like for a team picture (what a group! the beautiful people & i don't mean that in a snotty way at all) * i was so startled i didn't think to do anything but just talk to them, no autographs, no pictures, but (as i told my pal later) "i did look them every single one in the eye" & that seemed much more important * i also tried to get a picture of their school bus after they all got in it but it drove away too fast * that's what i said, "school bus?" * |

making lists: about this pagelast updated 10 January 2004
the stunning movie The Pillow Book is the inspiration for this ever-evolving page of lists * there are lots of links mixed in on my lists -- if i could find a good link on any item, i included it * some links go straight to Amazon.com or the IMDb but watch that bottom status bar because there are some other great links hidden in there * if you're interested in a little history, follow the story behind this page on the one that came before it, otherwise, click on for more rambling words and lists of beloved things -- is that an oxymoron?
the lists below may look the same but they change every time i update the page * not all of them every time, but all of them over time * as it's a new year i'm going to give them another thorough going over, keep my mind moving on to new obsessions, even though i don't completely let go of the old ones *
the 2 spots at top i'll keep -- they're always changing & besides, they please me (i'm the only audience for these pages for all i know, so why not?) * my horrorscope: i'm a woo-woo type, part pagan, so why not revel in it? & the hotties in the movies: what's life without some tasty crushes? i try to keep the list short, but when i really fall for somebody it's usually because of a generous genuine nature & then i never want to take him&her off my list * like Viggo, like Salma * i saw the elvin Cate Blanchett on Inside the Actors Studio & wow... she said "It has to be a generous act" about really giving herself to a performance emotionally, going all out as she does * the generosity of creative expression is one of my favorite concepts, the one i've begun the last 2 years with (see Viggo for last year, & Brezsny for this) * see, it's all connected * |

my horrorscope this week
(for the week of 15 January 2004): Aries actress Sarah Jessica Parker announced recently that she washes her hair with Mane 'N' Tail shampoo, a product made for horses. I recommend that you consider switching to it, too. It's time to please your inner thoroughbred, whose animal intelligence and wild vitality will be essential to you in the coming weeks. You're finally ready to activate higher levels of ambition; to enter a bigger race for a better prize.
angel cards i just drew:
humour delight honesty how am i doing?
i have a funny ritual: i spread the angel cards around on a special rug until they turn over, one by one till i have 3 * if an extra turns over i don't get to keep it even if i like the word (i do have favorite words but rituals are a bit rigid y'know -- i always write them down in the order they flip too) * sometimes i get my favorites & today i'll just say that i had already filled in my favorite word for the day when i chose these cards * to begin with a theme
(for the week of 1 January 2004): I saw my Aries friend Alexis yesterday. "You're even more festive than the last time I saw you," I told her. She had on red silk pants, a burgundy cashmere sweater, silver scarf, black snakeskin boots, and beaded black tunic. I noticed several new piercings and a Hindu-style red dot on her forehead just above her eyes. She also happened to be carrying her snake, which was wrapped around her arm. "The older I get, the freer I am to hide nothing about how I really feel," she replied. "It's not even rebellion any more -- it's generosity. I have this sense that the world needs me to express my most extravagant self." I nominate Alexis to be your patron saint in 2004, Aries.
