the Obsession Chronicles

"There is no remedy for love but to love more."

yesterday my poor little Pippin had his mandatory surgery (which they so delicately put on the bill as "puppy castration") so he's no longer a real man * owie! he whined a lot last night so it was a very mellow evening for us * life is pretty mellow around here anyway, but we don't always veg in front of the tv for hours (okay, sometimes -- for some reason i can't go to sleep before midnight lately) * i finished the cast commentary for Two Towers -- love those extended dvds (love hearing Billy & Dom tell eachother "i love you," emphasizing the glorious & unabashed boy love theme of the whole trilogy; love hearing Sir Ian point out he's gay & that he especially enjoyed getting Sam to grab Frodo's hand, as he does in the book; can't wait to hear what Alan Lee has to say on the design commentary)! i keep trying to show Pippin how he got his name but he doesn't like tv as much as my last pup did * it's funny, he looks like he did when i first brought him home today * all sad & lost & confused -- i swear i can see it in his face (such a cute face!) *

making lists: about this page

last updated 10 January 2004
the stunning movie The Pillow Book is the inspiration for this ever-evolving page of lists * there are lots of links mixed in on my lists -- if i could find a good link on any item, i included it * some links go straight to Amazon.com or the IMDb but watch that bottom status bar because there are some other great links hidden in there * if you're interested in a little history, follow the story behind this page on the one that came before it, otherwise, click on for more rambling words and lists of beloved things -- is that an oxymoron?
the lists below may look the same but they change every time i update the page * not all of them every time, but all of them over time * as it's a new year i'm going to give them another thorough going over, keep my mind moving on to new obsessions, even though i don't completely let go of the old ones *
the 2 spots at top i'll keep -- they're always changing & besides, they please me (i'm the only audience for these pages for all i know, so why not?) * my horrorscope: i'm a woo-woo type, part pagan, so why not revel in it? & the hotties in the movies: what's life without some tasty crushes? i try to keep the list short, but when i really fall for somebody it's usually because of a generous genuine nature & then i never want to take him&her off my list * like Viggo, like Salma * i saw the elvin Cate Blanchett on Inside the Actors Studio & wow... she said "It has to be a generous act" about really giving herself to a performance emotionally, going all out as she does * the generosity of creative expression is one of my favorite concepts, the one i've begun the last 2 years with (see Viggo for last year, & Brezsny for this) * see, it's all connected *

my horrorscope this week
(for the week of 12 February 2004):
Happy Valentine Daze, Aries! Here's an important bulletin from poet Emily Dickinson: Until you have been in love, you cannot become yourself. I'd like you to try that revolutionary idea on for size, Aries. Do this experiment. For a given period -- say the coming week or the next ten years -- act as if the only way you can ever find out who you really are is to lose yourself in sublime yearning for a worthy partner. Assume, for the sake of argument, that one of the best strategies for becoming the unique masterpiece you were born to be is to help a person you love become the unique masterpiece he or she was meant to be.

angel cards i just drew:
communication    light    balance

how am i doing?
well... i wish! i do have a yearning for a very worthy partner ...but it's not to be * & that's okay * right now seems a time to concentrate on getting my own act together * i want a partner more than anything -- i want the whole dream: a life-partner, a house with a big yard so i can get my Pippin his Merry, & maybe a kid if there's still time (i'd be a great stay-at-home mom) * but a girl's gotta live her life in the present y'know? i have faith that i'll find It, that big, big love, but i also realize that when i don't have that focus for all my energy i am much more creative in other ways * i write; i obsess over my website & my web work; i learn new tricks (like tarot); & i get to immerse myself in whatever beautiful art catches my fancy at the time (don't tell me you have to ask what that is now), finding new inspiration along the way * there are some lonely moments but my friends are with me (even if not geographically) & life is good -- it's always good *

animal friends:
my new best friend is a sweetie of a black lab pup & he's named, of course, for my favorite little drunk turned hero, Pippin * we've been together for 2 & a half weeks now & our bond is deepening everyday * he's learning all the tricks & i'm getting out to the parks a lot more * funny how everybody talks to you when you're walking with a cute, rambunctious puppy! if anybody's going to find me a new human sweetie it'll be Pippin (not that he's not boyfriend enough for me right now, of course!) *

Malkmus behind the weeping willow

sayings i live by:
not all boys grow up to be men *
ain't nothin' like the real thing baby *
just because something is possible
doesn't mean you get to have it *
home sweet home *
fake it till you make it *
we're all connected *
all things in moderation *
embrace the dark side *
use it or lose it *
love it or leave it *
the answer's usually both *
nobody's just anybody *
regrettin' shit is a waste of time *
i'd rather regret som'm i did than som'm i didn't *
one door never closes without another one opening *
there are no innocents *
damn, we're in a tight spot *
